“…My house is the house of prayer…” (Luk.19:46). “Here I am and the children the Lord has given me. We are signs and symbols in Israel from the Lord Almighty, who dwells on Mount Zion” ( Is. 8:18). “Then our sons in their youth will be like well-nurtured plants, and our daughters will be like pillars carved to adorn a palace” (Ps. 144:12). Let’s believe these promises and walk in them, as we become the comfortable home where the Lord is happy to live. He is at home in His children who open their hearts when He knocks. Be the house of prayer.

Everyone’s prayer life is unique and personal. Our Father enlightens every person with His eternal truth (Jn. 1:12), and fashions every heart individually (Ps. 33:15 NKJ). He has planted within our spiritual DNA a quest for maturity. This maturing process requires nurturing a oneness, a union with the Lord. Becoming one with Him is how we grow in love, and receive the instruction and training required to walk away from the old nature, as we find ourselves “Walking and Talking with God.” We are changed, transformed, renewed in the spirit of our minds, as we become new people in Christ. (Rom. 12:1-2, 2Cor. 3:18). Amen!

Without this lifeline of communication, it is impossible to live the way we are made to live, in the center of God’s will. As we mature in our relationship with Him, we’ll know Him more intimately and also grow in our relationships with others. This unity with God and others ignites individuals, churches and schools to become the Matthew 5:14, “Light of the world, a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hid,” in this generation (Mt. 5:14).

Every great move of God throughout history happened because God’s people responded to His invitation to unite with Him, to hangout with Him. That’s right… hangout! Acts 4:13 makes this pretty clear: “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were unlearned and ignorant men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with (hung out with) Jesus.” They spent time with Him. They were changed, and in turn, they changed the world. Let’s do it! We receive the message by being with Him. We then become His message, and share His message. There’s really no other way to live such an adventurous and fulfilling life. Hang out with Jesus and hang on!

The contemporary phrase, “hang out,” should not feel irreverent but wonderfully relevant. Although language changes Truth doesn’t. The Father sent the Son, and the Son spoke of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Jn. 14:17). The Three are One from ancient times to infinity. A man asked Jesus, “…How will you manifest yourself to us…? Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him” (Jn. 14:22-23). Be God’s home. He knows your address. “Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me” (Rev. 3:20).

3. PRAYER
Our text, “PRAYER - WALKING AND TALKING WITH GOD,” is a collection of biblical principles about prayer. These principles can guide us into new levels of relationship with the Lord. However, this book is not the ultimate cure-all, nor the final word on prayer. It is one of many resources used to move us toward the ultimate goal of intimate communion with the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We seek to be one with God in our thoughts, words and behavior. PRAYER IS THE WAY!

On An Academic Level Get as much knowledge as possible from our resources. God warns through Hosea: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children” (Hosea 4:6). Ouch! Knowledge is good. Knowledge is power. Knowledge is not always perky and alive to us at the moment we’re required to learn it. With the passage of time, God often accesses our cranial hard drives to use the knowledge and concepts we’ve studied. This can save our lives and the lives of many others as well.

On A Spiritual Level Feed your passion and grow much closer in your extremely personal relationship with the Lord. As we know from Scripture and experience, every relationship is a give-and-take adventure. You have seen this in your home, in your friendships, at school and in the church. The same is true of our growing friendship/courtship with the Lord. Embrace this vision of giving and receiving in your relationship with the Lord. Make it your life mission to be one with Jesus. The Son of Man gave all and received all. Jesus, the son of man, did it, and proved that we can as well. Keep this vision of personal spiritual growth alive, for “Where there is no vision the people perish…” (Pr. 29:18).

We face death to gain life. Truth is a person. Jesus Truth, Best Friend Truth, Father Truth, Spirit Truth, or however you see Him, Truth has a way of slaying our humanness. He nudges us toward godliness, toward righteousness and holiness. This movement means new life, although collisions of the old nature and prospective new nature are inevitable. The old man collides with the new creature we are becoming in Christ. As we yield to living in constant communication/prayer with Him, we choose to leave the fallen nature behind and to discover the new godly nature evolving. Hallelujah! Life doesn’t get better than this! True life is to die for - many have! Amen! May we do the same on a daily basis as Scripture encourages. The Apostle Paul said, “…I die daily” (1Cor. 15:31). True life is to die for.

On A Practical Level Leaving that painful yet uplifting truth for a moment, let’s turn our thoughts to the practice of prayer. Throughout this course we will experiment with several ways to pray. Such exercises help us to discover the best way in which we connect with God. This is biblically sound and sets us free on a path of uniting with Him.

God has an individualized plan for every one of his children (Jer. 29:11). Why then should every student of PRAYER have the same assignment? Our goal is for each one to receive his Personalized Prayer Project assignment from the Lord, through prayer and a helpful rubric.
EDUCATIONAL HOOPS: We all jump through educational hoops of some sort. Hoops represent the requirements for official certifications, transcripts, stamps of approval, restrictions and regulations determined by governments and institutions. Wow! Everyone has to conform to standards. While these hoops are good benchmarks they don’t always consider individuality, and they can feel like a gauntlet of academic trials. We pass through them and do the requirements to get a degree, to get a job, to make a living, and to make a difference.

GOD’S HOOPS: The point is, although educational requirements are indispensable, it’s time to look at God’s requirements, His personalized qualifications, His personalized hoops for our lives. You will eventually choose you own hoops by selecting a college, a course study, a life partner and so on. Scary! However, the Lord is our Guide. “As many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God” (Rom. 8:14). How essential is His leading for life!

God will lead each one of us to discover His plan, His hoop, for a Personalized Prayer Project. First Corinthians 12:11 and Matthew 25:15 assure our hearts that God has gifted us individually. He has made us to enjoy life by loving our DNA that He has selected for us. We live at optimum performance when we live in harmony with His structure of our individuality. We are not mass produced, but uniquely designed and wired.

Neurologically every part of the human body is wired to function in perfect harmony with the rest of the body. So it is in the Body of Christ. We are members of the body of Christ. We should get all of our direction from the Him - the Head. We need to hear his voice. God has an extremely personal hoop, a personal plan, for our maturity. Prayer is like our neurological connection with Him, which empowers us to function in His body. Therefore, God provides individualized instruction, Holy Spirit tutoring, one-on-one nurturing with Him through prayer. AMEN!

This is why we will the study the breadth of prayer topics; we’ll also nurture the depth of our unique calling in prayer. How cool is our God!

Your Prayer Project should be born out of your deepening relationship with the Lord. You are to pray, talk with Him, and expect answer about:
 Your topic selection
 Your reference materials
 Your presentation components
God loves you and He loves talking with you. To help quicken ideas, we’ll view a few of the fine projects of former students, and use a simple five-step rubric.

Ask yourself these two questions to discover your Prayer Project topic.

1) “ What do I love about the Lord?” Your answer reveals your special relationship with Him. Your particular love of God, your admiration of Him is what you have to share with others.
2) Ask yourself which of the 26 chapters of “PRAYER - Walking And Talking With God” attracts me the most? Pick one of the titles or subtitles as your Prayer Project topic. There’s a God-reason for your attraction to particular topics of prayer.

You have a unique relationship with the Lord and that is what God wants you to share and impart to the class. Matthew 13:12 establishes this operative principle of life: “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance. . .” An apple tree is a good thing. Although an unattended apple tree produces a few small bug invested apples. Nurture that same tree and it produces an abundance of excellent fruit. As we come under the care (feeding and pruning) of the Holy Spirit, our Prayer Project topic will be filled with the abundance of what we grow. God promises to bless us with deeper, richer and broader truth. “For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance...” We should never remain the same but alway be growing under the Lord’s nurturing love. We’ll become His productive trees bearing His fruit on our branches.

Your Prayer Project will include truth that is a new discovery to you. You will be amazed as you dig for truth in a topic that is close to your heart. God will enrich and empower you, and you will, in turn, bless others.

What resources will you use? (Internet, books, human resources - including parents, pastors, teachers, surveys, videos, life experiences, etc.)

What will the final package of your message look like? Your project will be a fifteen to thirty minute presentation along with your product (written paper, slide show, power point, or video, commercial product, etc.). Think big, productive, multimedia, or simple, powerful, exportable, reproducible in the real world, practical, but above all anointed. Do not be distracted in the packaging process of your message. It’s all about the message, not the messenger or the packaging. Truth comes in many forms; above all, it is Truth, and Truth is a Person! Bring Him!

Dive into the Word
and build your project!

Present your project! God has designed the church body to bless itself. As we grow into our oneness with Him we likewise grow closer to one another. As a united group of God’s students, we have fun loving one another and sharing our new discoveries with each other. The body of Christ builds itself up in this way. It’s a win-win event and way of life!
